Trenton Thunder’s “Tweet Your Seat” with Nassau Inn

By: Patience Purdy

Back in May we told you about a new partnership between the Trenton Thunder and the Nassau Inn. Fans coming to Thunder games were encouraged to “Tweet Your Seat” and win a $15 gift card to the Yankee Doodle Tap Room. When the Thunder close out our season this Thursday, September 1, 2011 we may not have beaten every team we saw at home, but thanks to the Nassau Inn we had a winner at every game. Fans loved the “Tweet Your Seat” promotion!

Here’s the response from our 8/25 winner

“Thanks to @TrentonThunder and @NassauInn, @Lil_Jimmy_ will be taking me out for a very nice dinner!!! #tweetyourseat”

The “Tweet Your Seat” promotion even managed to grab the attention of industry insiders who rightly predicted it would be mirrored by other teams across the country.

“This is the first time I’ve seen such a promo in the Minors, but I highly doubt it will be the last. It can easily be adapted to any market, and should help teams build social media followings for both themselves and the sponsor,” said Benjamin Hill, writer of Ben’s Biz Blog, a blog that covers the business side of professional baseball.

Ben was right, and although we don’t know for sure that we were the inspiration, several teams, major and minor league, announced the same or similar promotions this season.

“Tweet Your Seat” wasn’t the only excitement at the ballpark this season. The Thunder set a new attendance record on July 3, 2011 and hosted 4 major league All Stars on our field this season. Thunder fans were treated to rehab appearances by Phil Hughes, Derek Jeter, Brad Lidge and Shane Victorino. Derek Jeter’s stint with the Thunder had us garnering national attention and our first appearance on HBO as part of the Derek Jeter 3K documentary.

So, while the Trenton Thunder will be off for the fall and winter, The Yankee Doodle Tap Room at the Nassau Inn is open for your dining pleasure. Have a great off season everyone and when 2012 rolls around, don’t forget to #tweetyourseat!
