Theatre.  Sports.  Music.  Food.   September brings seasonal and annual events you won’t want to miss – within Mercer County and right here in our backyard.  As the Princeton CVB states: “Princeton.  Not just a town, an experience.”  After the summer winds down, the pools and beach houses are closed, the kids go back to school, or get on the bus for their first day of kindergarten, college classes begin – welcome back PU!,  and the leaves begin to fall, people look to fill their calendars with things to do with the whole family.  Here are some events you won’t want to miss:

Sept 11JazzFeast on the Palmer Square Green – Noon – 6 PM  rain or shine In its nineteenth year, the JazzFeast event is an open-air jazz festival that swings with the joy of great music and food!  Featuring performances by some of the industry’s best jazz musicians and showcasing many of the area’s finest restaurants, the one-day festival draws thousands of people to downtown Princeton.

I was very fortunate as a New Yorker not to have lost any close friends or loved ones on 9/11.  For those of you who have, my heart goes out to you and your families.  May we cherish each day as we all grow stronger, as individuals and a nation.

Sept 12 – Grandparent’s Day – Celebrate grandma; you wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for her!  Visit Monday Morning Flowers online or in their Forrestal Village store and pick out something special.

Sept 12 – Grounds For Sculpture’s Storytelling Festival – Noon – 6 PM rain or shine.  Celebrate the time- honored art of the living word as over 40 tellers present different stories throughout the day. Picnic lunches will be available at The Peacock Café.

Pick Your Own Apples!

Grandparents, moms, dads, and children of all ages go to Apple Day at Terhune Orchards to celebrate the Apple Harvest.  Apple Day kicks off the fall festival which goes through the end of October.  In addition to apple and pumpkin picking, are horse-drawn wagon and pony rides, pumpkin painting, and scarecrow making.  Everyone looks forward to the adventure barn and corn stalk maze. The “Everything Apple ” buffet will include fresh apple pies, apple cider donuts, apple salad and apple muffins across from the live music.

Sept 24 to 26Mercer County Italian American Festival in Mercer County Park.  Italian cultural festival which includes a Food Piazza featuring regional Italian restaurants; an Italian Market with specialty products; a Heritage Pavilion with art, memorabilia, and historical artifacts; a Cultural Theater with cooking demonstrations and authors; entertainment on two stages including national recording acts; amusement rides; bocce;  children’s entertainment; and fireworks.
