Custom Yankee Doodle Ale on Tap

I have been a beer enthusiast for many years, attending all sorts of events such as brewery tours, beer festivals, tasting and pairing dinners, and home-brewing seminars. My wife hates going into the beverage store because I spend so much time searching for a new beer I haven’t tasted. Each month I receive my Mid-Atlantic Brewing News and I immediately sit at my kitchen table, crack open a cold bottle and read about the wonderful world of beer that has me so fascinated.

I have the great opportunity to work at the most historic restaurant and bar in Princeton, The Yankee Doodle Tap Room. My initial brainstorming about Yankee Doodle and historical Princeton lead me to the American Revolution. Many of our founding fathers and American patriots were beer enthusiast themselves and brewed beers of their own creation in small batches for their family and friends. When choosing what beer to write about first, I immediately decided I would choose the Boston Beer Company because after all Boston was the birthplace of the American Revolution.

The Boston Beer Company produces Samuel Adams, traditional American style beers reminiscent of the colonial days (few ingredients and straight-forward brewing methods). Sam Adams and the Yankee Doodle Tap Room teamed up in 2007 to created the Yankee Doodle Ale, available only at the Yankee Doodle Tap Room.

The Yankee Doodle Ale is complex, balanced with a pleasing hop aroma. This full-bodied lager is amber to golden in color and exhibits flavors of caramel malts balanced with citrus and piney notes. The Yankee Doodle Ale is an outstanding food beer, with a huge variety of complimentary pairings. This beer is fantastic with medium weight meals such as glazed hams, smoked fish, chicken, and turkey dishes. This beer also works well with fresh grilled steaks, burgers, or chick as well as with salads made with almonds or walnuts.

In addition to the Yankee Doodle Ale, The Yankee Doodle Tap Room features Sam Adam’s original brew, the Boston Lager and their seasonal brews, Summer Ale & Winter Lager.

Be sure to follow again next month when I continue to look at beers and the American Revolution, which we will feature Yards Brewing Company’s signature series. . . Ales of the Revolution.
